John A. Blau, age 86, of Baraboo, passed away on March 26, 2024 at SSM Hospice House in Baraboo, surrounded by his wife and daughter, Melanie.
John was born on July 31, 1937 at home in Caledonia Township in Merrimac, the son of Frank and Rose (Ruhland) Blau. Following 10th grade, he worked on the family farm then he went to Chicago to an electricians school. On Feb. 20, 1960 he was united in marriage to Lorrell Burke in Munising, MI. He worked for Maytag Appliance then started his own business “Blau Appliance Service” which he continued for over 40 years. He enjoyed singing in the choir at St. Mary Parish in Menomonee Falls. He loved playing cards at the Baraboo Senior Center with family and friends. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Baraboo and Knights of Columbus 4240 in Menomonee Falls.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Crowley Haefer and her family; his daughters, Melanie (Tom) Wentler, Gaylene Stingl, Carrie (Kevin) Johnson and Michelle (Michael) DeVries; grandchildren, Heather (Christopher Meyer) Wentler, Lisa Wentler, Tammy (Bob) Edwards, Tom (Kayla) Stingl, Ashley (Jeremy) Baier, Courtney (Greg) Kirkeeng, Macayla DeVries, Marissa DeVries; great-grandchildren, Jayce Miller, Ely, Georgia and Murphy Baier, Chloe Kirkeeng; his siblings, Alvin (Karen) Blau, Leonard (Janice) Blau, and Luke (Christine) Blau; sister-in-law, Donna Blau, nieces, nephews, other near relatives and many close friends.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Rose; his late wife, Lorrell, his siblings, Edwin (Clara) Blau, Leo (Charlotte) Blau, Charles (Helen/Gerry) Blau, Mary (Gerald) Lange, Joe Blau, Rose Ann Blau, Florence Krejchik and Ladi (Irene) Kout.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, April 3,2024 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Luke Powers presiding. Visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass. The Rosary will be said at 9:45 a.m. in honor of John. Burial will follow the Mass at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Duwards Glen Retreat Center, W11876 McLeisch Road, Baraboo, WI 53913.
The family would like to thank SSM Health Hospice.
