John J. Pier , Age 79


December 23, 1943 --September 11, 2023

John J. Pier passed away on September 11th, 2023 at St. Mary's Care Center in Madison, Wi. John was born on December 23rd, 1943 to Philip & Marcella Pier in Milwaukee, WI. On September 21st, 1963 he married Diane Emery who preceded him in death in 1995. Together they raised 3 children, Carrie, Jeff & Don. He was blessed with 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren and one on the way.

John & Diane owned their own restaurant in Princeton, WI for over 20 years. They later moved to Baraboo, WI where he worked as the Head Cook at St. Joseph's Catholic School until his retirement. He developed many friends while working out at St. Clare Hospital's Cardiac Rehab. His sense of humor and outlook on life will be greatly missed by his family, friends and the staff at St. Marys Care Center.

John leaves behind his children, Carrie (Eugene) Doro, Jeff (Deb) Pier & Don (Jess) Pier and 7 grandchildren, Tim (Dani Rae) Doro of Baraboo, Brad (Jodi) Doro of Grafton, Samantha (Kyle) Wedel of Baraboo, Kayla (Josh) Sommer of Fond du Lac, Austin Pier (Piper) of Madison, Brandon (Amy) Pier of Appleton, and Spencer Pier (Emily) of Florida along with his great grandchildren, Evrette and Cody Doro, Kennedy and Megan Doro, Nathan and Ellie Wedel, and Wyatt Sommer. He is further survived by his brother, Larry (Ann) Pier and sister, Sharon DeCristo as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Diane, his parents and mother and father-in-law, brother Jim Pier, sister Sandy Nieskes and sister-in-law Patricia Pier, brothers-in-law, Gordon Nieskes and James Decristo.

Visitation will take place on Tuesday, September 19th, 2023 from 10-11 at Redlin-Ertz Funeral Home in Baraboo, with a Prayer Service to follow at 11am. Inurnment will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Baraboo.

The family would like to thank all the staff at St. Mary's Care Center in Madison for caring for their father the last 3 years.
