June E. Herritz, age 67, of North Freedom, passed away unexpectedly on January 21, 2024.
June was born on August 4, 1956 to Hilbert Marion and Genevieve Lottie (Harman) Leatherberry in Baraboo, WI. She spent her childhood growing up on the family farm within the scenic Baraboo Bluff Valley, which was always a special place to her. She graduated from Baraboo High School in 1974 and achieved an associate degree, as a Certified Nursing Assistant, later in life. On March 2, 1977, she was united in marriage to Richard Herritz at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Baraboo. They were blessed with 3 children; daughter, Alysia, and sons, Ryan and Eric.
June’s career path had many professions throughout her life; from working at St. Clare Hospital to an accountant retail shop assistant at Landscape Techniques. June finished out her career path in what arguably was her greatest passion of all, at BrightStar, as a CNA. Regardless of the many career professions, June’s most evident and fulfilling career was being a Mother and Grandmother. She took great pride in helping people; always loved listening to and sharing fond memories. She believed that life is not a meaningless series of accidents or coincidences, but rather a tapestry of events that weave an exquisite sublime plan. At the center of this was her family, faith in God, and an undenied work ethic to make sure those around her were taken care of.
Many that met June, would be drawn in by her warm vibrant smile or inviting hello. She was a sucker for old movies, had a huge heart for animals, and a very fond joy for cooking. Her everything was found in four main ingredients, her grandchildren!, Evelyn, Brayton, Genevieve and Ellanora. If there was ever a recipe that would win best at show, it involved a culmination of Grandma in large amounts. Her life revealed to most a profound chapter of love, nurturing, and Faith!
June is survived by her husband, Richard; children, Ryan Herritz, Alysia Herritz, and Eric (Rauha) Herritz; grandson, Brayton; granddaughters, Evelyn, Genevieve, and Ellanora; sisters, Julianne and Connie; brothers, Allen, Neil (Debbie), Gayland (Franceen), and Mike (Gloria) as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Belva Smith and Donna Wicklund, and her brother, Dale Leatherberry.
We love you to the Moon and back Mom!!! Till the next time we see each other…
It was June’s wish to be cremated. She cherished the moments where family could sit down and share the warmth of each other’s company. This was especially true on holidays, so why not recreate what she loved the most. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at Prairie Smoke Terrace in White Mound County Park, S7995 Whitemound Dr., Hillpoint, from 11am-5pm. There will be food, family and friends, byob and memories.
The family requests that donations be made, in lieu of flowers, to a living tribute garden at her favorite places. Please send donations, memorials and cards to: Ryan Herritz, S6863 County Rd PF, North Freedom, WI 53951.
The Redlin-Ertz Funeral Home is assisting the family.

I don't know what to say because "I'm sorry for your loss" doesn't seem like enough! I just found out today through the class of 74 FB site that June passed. I am shocked to say the least. I ran into her less than a week before she died and was trying to convince her to come to the class reunion this fall because I was thinking of going. We talked and joked for quite awhile, blocking people coming into the store, and then decided we needed to move on before the store got mad at us. She looked great to me! I cannot believe she is gone. Cherish the memories!!!
