Stephen J. Rundio III , Age 87


October 22, 1936 --March 10, 2024

Stephen J. Rundio III, age 87, of Baraboo, died peacefully March 10, 2024, at SSM Health St. Clare Hospital in Baraboo.

Stephen was born October 22, 1936 in Egg Harbor, NJ, to Martha (Kraan) and Stephen Rundio. He grew up in Egg Harbor, where he graduated from St. Joseph High School in Hammonton, NJ. He attended Guilford College in Greensboro, NC. It was in Greensboro where he met and married Elizabeth “Libby” Galloway on January 5, 1961. He served his country as an Army Helicopter Mechanic from June 6, 1960 - June 5, 1962. After two years in the service, he went on to earn his Ph.D. Libby and Steve raised their three children in Greensboro, NC until the family moved to Wisconsin in 1976.

After the couple purchased a home in Baraboo, Steve became involved in many activities. He was an avid tennis player and enjoyed traveling with Libby.  He enjoyed hunting rabbits with his beagles and fishing. He was a professor and athletic director for UW-Baraboo for 27 years.  He was a longtime member of the local Baraboo Veterans Honor Guard in the American Legion. He served as Post Commander in 2017 and several years as Post Historian.  

Stephen is survived by his children, Stephen (Roberta Armour) Rundio IV of Tomah,  Jenelle (Jerry) Reick of Glendale, and Michael (Rebecca) Rundio of Baraboo; granddaughter, Madilyn Reick of Milwaukee; grandson, Evan Rundio of Baraboo, other relatives, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife in 2021. 

A visitation will be held at Redlin-Ertz Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon on Saturday, March 23, 2024, with military honors performed by the local Baraboo Veterans Honor Guard at 12:00 noon at the funeral home. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the American Legion Post 26, PO BOX 37, Baraboo, WI, 53913. 

The family would like to thank the staff at Oak Park Place and SSM Health St. Clare Hospital for their care of Steve.
