Ronald `Ron` L. Kowalke , Age 82


January 06, 1942 --March 23, 2024

Ronald “Ron” L. Kowalke, age 82, of Baraboo, passed away on March 23, 2024 at his home.

 

Ron was born in Baraboo to Irvin “Ike” and Geneva (Haskins) Kowalke on January 6, 1942. He graduated from Baraboo High School, Class of 1960. He entered the Army on October 15, 1961. He worked for the City of Baraboo in the Public Works Department for 39 years. He could often be seen driving the snowplow around in the winters.

 

Ron was a sociable and positive person. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to crack jokes with his numerous friends, family, and colleagues. He was famous for his one-liners, such as “now we’re loggin’,” “you got that right!” and “eat your heart out!” Ron loved “Star Trek,” Old Western shows, the ID channel, “Planet of the Apes,” and “Gunsmoke.” One of his favorite songs was “The Highwayman.”

 

Ron is survived by his 5 children, Debbie (Kowalke) Sale, John Kowalke, Brenda (Fleischmann) Howard, Maria (Fleischmann-Kowalke) Griffin, and Rona (Fleischmann-Kowalke) Atwell; 16 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Kenneth and Bradley, and his beloved dog, Lucas.

 

Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 13, 2024 at Redlin-Ertz Funeral Home with Pastor Jonathan Tipton officiating. Military Honors will be performed following the service at the funeral home. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. Inurnment will be private.

So sorry to hear this sad news. As a youngster I lived across the street from Ron and his mom and dad on Council Street. He was a very hard and loyal worker.
