Charles R. `Chuck` Cady , Age 78


July 17, 1945 --March 31, 2024

Charles R. “Chuck” Cady, age 78, of Merrimac, passed away on Easter Sunday, March 31, 2024, at his home, surrounded by his loving family, after a very brief illness.

Charles was born the son of Charles Jr. and Gertrude (Swedlund) on July 17, 1945 in Elmhurst, IL. He graduated from Willowbrook High School in Villa Park, IL, Class of 1963.  He married his high school sweetheart Barbara Brodt on May 28, 1966, in Elmhurst, IL. He worked at Commonwealth Edison, having retired in 1998 after 31 years with the company.  

In his early years, he loved to waterski and snowmobile. Chuck fixed everything, he enjoyed building and remodeling houses and restoring old cars and trucks. Chuck loved Corvettes.  He was a longtime member and officer of the Columbia County Corvette Club, Merrimac Snowmobile Club, and AWSC.  He also was a member of the Baraboo Country Club, even though he preferred to swing a hammer over a golf club. 

Chuck is survived by his wife of 57 years, Barbara; his children, Diane (Jeffery) Zbilski of Merrimac,  Michael (Paige) Cady, LaFayette, TN; 5 grandchildren, Nicole (Michael Heatherly) Zbilski, Tyler (Nichoel Lawson) Zbilski, Veronica (Lucas) Chambers, Morgan (Nicholas) Solomon, Jacob (Baylee) Cady; great-grandchildren, Caden, Nicholas, Tre, Moriah, Scarlett, Mikayla, Otto, Madilynn. He is further survived by his sister, Patricia Griffin; sister-in-law, Nancy Bolstad, nieces, nephews, other close relatives and dear friends. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; his parents-in-law, Burton (Virgina) Brodt; his sister, Marion Nelson; brothers-in-law, Harry Griffin, Bob Bolstad, Donald Brodt, and his sister-in-law, Carole Fowich. 

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to your local charity. 

The family would like to thank SSM Health at Home Hospice for their care that allowed him to be at home, as well as UW Health for how well they all took care of him.

So sorry to hear of Chuck's passing. It's been years since I last saw Chuck, but I have many memories of Merrimac Snowmobile meetings and trail rides. Chuck was a good guy.
