Robert A. `Bob` Madland , Age 82

September 22, 1941 --April 15, 2024

Robert A. “Bob” Madland, age 82, of Baraboo, passed away on Monday, April 15, 2024 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison surrounded by his loving family. Robert was born, son of Paul and Elva (Kowalke) Madland on September 22, 1941 in Baraboo. He graduated from Baraboo High School, Class of 1959. He enlisted in the US Army and proudly served his country in the from July 18, 1959 until his honorable discharge on March 10, 1965. On September 3, 1966 he was united in marriage to Sharon R. Eisenhart at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Baraboo.

He was employed at Northern Engineering as a coil winder and worked his way up to an engineering tech. God gifted Bob with a beautiful singing voice and musical talent. He learned to play the accordion at a very young age. With his brother Tom and a few neighborhood boys they formed the Seven Sloppy Cowboys and played music in local taverns. He played with several bands but was best known for playing with the Illusive Sounds until his career in medical engineering took Bob and Sharon to Georgia and Florida for a decade before returning to Baraboo in 1995. Bob picked up his accordion and keyboard and started the Illusive Sounds playing again. They played for many fundraisers, birthday parties and Concerts on the Square every summer.

Bob became a fixture in the Downtown Baraboo area when he and Sharon took over Thompson’s Jewelry. His meticulousness and attention to detail were a great help while training to be a goldsmith. Bob was very involved with Downtown Baraboo Inc. and enjoyed all the customers who came in to the store over the years. In retirement Bob and Sharon were able to spend a lot more time camping with their Old Farts Group in WI and soaking up the sun during their winters in Arizona.

This spring Bob was honored to receive a citation for 20 years with Baraboo Legion Post 26 serving many years on the Honor Guard. Unfortunately, due to his ill health, he was unable to fulfill his dream of going on the Honor Flight with his army buddies. Even through the challenges of failing health Bob maintained his sense of humor and love of a good practical joke.

A born showman and life of the party, Bob was at his best among friends and family. He was a very proud grandpa and enjoyed watching the family grow with each new great-grandchild. Above all, Bob was a devoted Christian giving his talents in praise to God singing for many weddings, funerals and church services over the years and now it is time for us to sing for him.

Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years, Sharon; his son, Troy and daughter-in-law, Sandy; grandchildren, Garrett (Dominique), Theresa (Mitchell) Holloway and Johanna (Jeff Crawford) and his great-grandchildren, Ivan and Loretta Madland, Maeve and Sylvie Holloway and Lenora Crawford. He is further survived by sister, Jane (Mike) Nowicki; sister-in-law, Nancy Madland and nephews, Mike and Rob Nowicki and Todd Madland and his aunt, Betty Seymour as well as other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his in-laws, Roy and Margaret Eisenhart and his brother, Tom Madland.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11a.m. on Thursday, May 2, 2024 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, with Pastor Karen Hofstad officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at Redlin-Ertz Funeral Home from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Visitation will also be held on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Military Honors will be conducted by the Baraboo Veterans Honor Guard at the church following the funeral.

The family would like to extend a special Thank You to St. Clare Meadows, Our House Assisted Living and SSM Home Health for the care and support shown to Bob and his family.

Redlin-Ertz Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Not many people will remember the V Tavern. Probably not remember The Baraboo Hotshots either. We were still kids. We weren't even electric. That is how I remember Bob and Tom the best. We were really close back in the day. Sharon, Donna and I feel your loss. and you have our deepest sympathy. The rest of us are nearing that final day. I hope the lord is ready for us all. We might have to start a band May the Lord bless you with peace. Ken Kurtz Ken

Dear Sharon and Troy...Another chapter in the life of a friendship that has carried over a period of 50 + years. We shared many good times over the years...getting married several months apart, almost every weekend, as we traveled to entertain and just plain having family gatherings. It was all good, and the memories will never fade away. God has been good to us, in spite of some of the aging battles we have been through. Now that the final chapter has been closed in this earthly life for Bob, his Heavenly chapter begins. I believe we can take comfort in knowing Bob is in Glory Land with Jesus, the most glorious reward of this earthly life that He has promised us...for an eternity; what a wonderful beginning to a new life. I pray God gives you strength to hold you up during your struggle of loss, and the ability to see through the cloud of anguish, knowing we will see Bob with a new and refreshed body, without any sickness, someday soon. God Bless.

we lived across the street from Bob and Sharon. If you needed help with something Bob was there to help. we had a big bees nest in the combo mailbox and paper box. Bob helped us get rid of the bees and the nest. then he helped us move our mailbox to the other side of the driveway. Bob helped me and my dad trim some of the limbs off on the tree in the front yard. I would see Bob & Sharon and Jim & Barb sitting outside sitting on the driveway enjoying the weather and talk about stuff. I would go over to join them. When i come up to Baraboo for my doctors appointment i would try to visit him and he was very happy to see me and talked a few hours. then dad also visited Bob in the nursing home talk about the changes in Baraboo since they both grew up in Baraboo. Bob was a great, nice and kind person. Miss you Bob.
