James “Jim” Michael Joachim, age 73, died on April 19, 2024 at SSM Health St. Clare Meadows Care Center in Baraboo, WI after a two year battle with throat and prostate cancer.

Jim, son of Michael and Laura (Gurgel) Joachim, was born on January 2, 1951. He was a graduate of Baraboo High School, Class of 1969. After holding various jobs in early working years, Jim became a drug and alcohol counselor.   It was his great joy and proudest accomplishment to have been able to help numerous people recover from lives of addiction to live sober and productive lives.
Jim was an avid photographer, hiker, camper and he particularly loved canoeing Wisconsin's rivers and lakes. He also had close ties and felt particularly thankful to the members of his Parkinson's and AA support groups in Baraboo. Jim was first told to see an ENT specialist during a Dentist visit now over 5 years ago.  He waited for 18 months to make an appointment, then due to COVID delays, was unable to be diagnosed and scheduled for surgery until the cancer had already progressed to the point that surgery resulted in an inability to swallow whole food or speak clearly. If he were alive today, Jim would urge anyone with a change to their physical condition to have it diagnosed as soon as possible. Jim is survived by his brother, Steve Joachim of Virginia Beach, VA; niece Sara, 31, and nephew Zachary, 28, both of Richmond Virginia; his dear friend, long-time companion and in the end care-giver, Charlotte Campbell of Baraboo, and numerous cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2024 from 1:oo p.m. until 5:oo p.m. at the Clarion Hotel Banquet Room in West Baraboo. A Eulogy will begin at 4:00.  Dress for the Celebration of Life is casual.

A private graveside service will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery in North Freedom for family prior to the Celebration of Life.
