William F. `Bill` Strachan Jr. , Age 88

William F. "Bill" Strachan Jr., age 88, of Baraboo, passed away on Monday, March 2, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Bill was born to William Fraser Sr. and Cecelia (Larsen) Strachan on October 2, 1937, in Chicago, IL. He answered the call to his country by serving in the United States Navy. He moved to Baraboo in 1969 to work as a manager at the Badger Army Ammunition Plant. He then managed the Cooperative Service Center and later created the businesses Fraser Thomas and Strachan Transfer. 

He married Elizabeth Kilpatrick and to this union three children were born, Thomas, James and Jennifer. On February 28, 1981, he was united in marriage to Stephanny (Saunders) Osmer in Sister Bay. Throughout his life, he enjoyed boating and scuba diving.

William is survived by his wife, Stephanny, of Baraboo; his children, Thomas (Linda) Strachan of Baraboo, James (Tara) Strachan of St. Charles, IL, and Jennifer Thuemmler of Sussex; his stepdaughter, Tracy Madden of Baraboo; and nine grandchildren. He is further survived by his brother-in-law, Scott (Terri) Hamilton of Dickeyville; his stepfather-in-law, Jim (Sandy Curley) Messer of Baraboo; as well as other relatives and many good friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Bobby and John Strachan; his stepson, Daniel Jordan Osmer; and his mother-in-law, Rose Messer.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 13, 2026, at Redlin-Ertz Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Friday at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Memorials may be made to SSM Hospice of Baraboo, Ochsner Park, St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Tunnel to Towers for our Veterans.

His family would like to thank SSM Hospice of Baraboo for their amazing support, with special thanks to Allison Reeves and Christina Asselin for their care and for making him smile, engage, and banter. Special thanks also to Jay Boyd for his support and friendship throughout his year-long journey. Thank you to the many friends for their calls, visits, and prayers.
