Jeanne Roberta Marking , Age 94

December 17, 1931 --March 03, 2026

Those who believe in God realize that life’s pattern grows steadily….slowly and beautifully and emerges as each perfect stitch is made in creating the fabric of a life well lived. When one applies each stitch carefully and declares their confidence in God and one’s abilities one can obtain and live a harmonious and productive life of service to others.

The earthly life of Jeanne Marking ended with a final stitch sewn in her pattern of life on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at St. Clare Hospital. Jeanne was born on December 17, 1931 to Robert Lincoln Schwartz and Hildegarde (Engle) Schwartz in Baraboo, Wisconsin. She graduated from Baraboo High School in 1949, the University of Wisconsin in 1953 and later earned her master’s degree in Home Economics Education and was a member of Phi Upsilon Omicron.

Jeanne was a runner up in the Miss Madison Recruiter Pageant, honored to be a Badger Beauty and Octopus Badger Magazine Dream Girl. Jeanne made education a ‘labor of love’ in her 40 years as a teacher. Jeanne served as Department Chair and Cheerleading Advisor at BHS and was honored as Teacher of the Year in 1985. She believed that an education should teach us how to make a living as well as how to live. “Mama” Marking was beloved by her students and was a no-nonsense educator, telling her students how to live, giving unsolicited ‘advice’ while making every student feel special and loved. She made lasting friendships with fellow teachers, and felt true joy in seeing her students grow and thrive as successful adults.

Jeanne’s legacy was one evident in the many years shared with beloved ‘boyfriend’ Chuck, her boys and their families, relatives, faculty friends, friends and her Emanuel Church family and God.

A marriage on November 5, 1954 brought the high school Homecoming Queen and Homecoming Football Captain in a union of love lasting over 67 years. They shared wonderful times together, saw their love grow into a relationship that was strong and everlasting. Jeanne was a devoted mother and cherished grandmother as she and Chuck were blessed with three sons: Randall and wife, Dawn and granddaughters Lisa and Alison; Robert and wife, Sonia and grandsons, Dylan and Nicolas (great grandson - Asrial); Jon and wife, Kristin and grandson, Keagen and step-grandchildren, Taylor and Mitchel. She is survived by her brother-in-law, William and Sue (deceased son, Brett) and sister-in-law, Beverly.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Mary and husband; brother-in-law, Jerry and other relatives and friends.

Jeanne was a selfless and considerate person, always willing to be of service to others. She was a faithful member of Emanuel Church Twenty-Five, Chairman of The Fairest of the Fair, one time Alice in Dairyland Chair, Miss Butterfest Judge, PEO, Paragon winner, lifetime Baraboo Country Club Member and winner, Wisconsin State “Apple” Award winner, Vocational Teacher, 50 year member of St. Clare Hospital Auxiliary Board and Sewing Chair.

Jeanne loved her husband, family, students and friends. She loved golf, crossword puzzles, decorating, cooking for a crowd and good times with family and friends.

Jeanne was blessed with a loving family, cherished students and friends and God’s unconditional love and promise of eternal life. May her love for you be ever in your lives as you live simply, love generously, care deeply about others, speak kindly to those people in your lives and always be a forgiving person and keep God in your life. Remember GOD IS GOOD ALL THE TIME!

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2026 at 11 a.m. at Emanuel Church in Baraboo with Pastor Ron Bupp officiating. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow at Walnut Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Sauk County Historical Society, Good Samaritan/Mite Box at Emanuel Church, Baraboo WI, Baraboo Circus World Museum, Baraboo WI, or a charity of choice.

The Redlin-Ertz Funeral Home is honored to assist the family.

This world has lost a bright light. Mama was truly a selfless lady, always looking to help others and take you under her wing. Students? No, we were her "babies". My heart goes out to the Marking family. Thank you for sharing her with the community. She was loved by so many and will never be forgotten. God definitely has a special place for her!

“Mama” Marking always made me smile, I was one of just a few thousand that took advantage of her home economics & sewing classes . She will be missed by generations. An absolutely wonderful woman and a credit to the teachers of the thunderbird nation. Rest in peace knowing you impacted my family in a positive way.
