Miriam R. Thompson (nee Marini), age 76, of Beloit and a longtime resident of Baraboo, passed away on Monday, March 30, 2026, at Beloit Health and Rehabilitation.
Miriam was born on March 1, 1950, in Baraboo to Alfredo and Henrietta (Gomon) Marini. She graduated from Baraboo High School and went on to attend the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where she earned her master’s degree in library science. For over 30 years Miriam served as the Children’s Librarian at the Baraboo Public Library, where she touched the lives of countless young readers and families.
She loved reading, watching classic movies, crafting, and birdwatching. Miriam also cherished spending time with family and friends, visiting Devil’s Lake, and helping create Christmas displays for the Sauk County Historical Society. She was a longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where she found joy in attending Mass and singing in the choir.
Miriam is survived by her son, David Thompson; her brother, Frederick Marini; cousins, Pam Wambold, Pat and Paul Pellett, Mike and Diane Marini, and their immediate and extended families; and dear friends, including Glenda Schindler, Gretchen Roltgen, Nijole Etzweiler, Jo Zipsie, among many others.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her aunts, Vera Dwars, Gladys Marini, Betty Gomon, and Madeline Elaine Pellet; and her uncle, Bernard Gomon; along with many other relatives and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Baraboo, with Fr. Paul Ugo Arinze presiding. Visitation will be held on Wednesday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Sauk County Historical Society.
