In recognition of his dedication, he received the 2011 State Superintendent Award, “Standing Up for Rural Wisconsin Schools, Libraries, and Communities,” and was honored with the first Wisconsin Educational Media Association Library Service Award.

Former student, friend and fellow antique lover Camp Douglas , Wisconsin
I came to know mister marini in my high school years And graduated in nineteen eighty three. We saw each other only intermittently through the years. But in the past eight years, he stopped frequently at my antique store on his way to and from his sister's house in barraboo. We had lots of nice discussions and conversations. And I am sad for his passing I had no idea he was sick. My prayers are with you all and I'm so grateful for have adding the opportunity to get to know him. Both is a student and as a friend.

Worked for him as his library aide Melrose, , Wisconsin
I knew Fred as my "boss" as his library aide at the Melrose School for many years. He was great to work under and his sense of humor and wit was known by all! He would take his aides for lunch on the first day of inservice each year so we could visit and get ready fora new year. Exchanging Christmas cards kept us in touch after he retired. My sincere condolences to his remaing family. He was a good man.

Fred was my mentor when I interned at the Melrose-Mindoro school district for my master's degree. He was easy to work with, generous with his time and talent, and one of the most supportive people in my early professional career. I will never forget his grin and dry sense of humor. When I did not receive the annual Christmas card last December, I knew something was wrong. After learning he was in the nursing home, I went to see him for the first time in many years. His face lit up, and we had a good conversation. I am grateful that I had a chance to thank him for all that he did for me. I will miss him.

I was grateful for the livestream of Fred’s funeral service today. Fred’s faith was very important to him and he would say “well done”, I think. Coworkers, Jill G, Deb S, and I looked in on Fred these last few months. We wished for a better way to let others know as he enjoyed having visitors. Rest in Peace, good man!
