Travis Jeffrey Holt , Age 55
Travis Jeffrey Holt, age 55, of Spencer, passed away unexpectedly due to cardiac arrest on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at Aspirus Hospital in Wausau.
Travis was born on April 10, 1971, in River Falls, Wisconsin, to Thomas and Agnes (Meltz) Holt. He later moved with his family to Baraboo, where he enjoyed lending a helping hand on the family hog farm. Travis graduated from Baraboo High School with the Class of 1989. During his high school years, he enjoyed participating in the wrestling program. Travis went on to attend the University of Wisconsin, where he earned a bachelor's degree in Agricultural Education. He later received his Master of Agribusiness degree from Kansas State University. He was also a graduate of the Graduate School of Banking at UW-Madison.
A lifelong advocate for agriculture and agricultural education, Travis dedicated countless hours to supporting youth through the FFA. During 1989–1990, he served as the Wisconsin FFA Sentinel, representing the Baraboo FFA Chapter. His passion for the organization continued throughout his life as he served on the Wisconsin FFA Foundation Board of Directors, including as its president. In recognition of his outstanding commitment and leadership, he was awarded the Honorary Wisconsin FFA Degree in 2016.
Travis was instrumental in helping the Foundation establish an endowment system that both maximized the funds available to students while securing those gifts
to last in perpetuity. Travis also coached state winning livestock and
meats judging teams in Baraboo and Bonduel.
Professionally, Travis served the community through his work with Citizens State Bank of Loyal, as Chairman/President and CEO, where he built lasting relationships and supported the financial success of local families, farms, and businesses, for 24 years. His expertise and leadership also extended statewide through his executive appointment as a Professional Member of the Wisconsin Banking Review Board. Travis also sat on the board of Bankers’ Bank for the past 9 years.
Travis was united in marriage to love of his life, Ellen, on April 2, 2004, on a sunny beach in Florida.
He had a lifelong love of snowmobiling and enjoyed spending time outdoors, whether he was hiking the trails or most recently mountain biking. Travis was an avid fan of the UW Badgers volleyball team and could name every player, as well as recite their statistics. He had a love for Peanut M&M's and he appreciated a fine bourbon.
Above all, Travis was the steady rock of his family. He was always the voice of reason, calm, dependable, generous, loyal, and a man of integrity. His intelligence, quick wit, and stubbornness were all part of what made him uniquely Travis. As his family would say, “he was always right, except for once a month.”
His love for Ellen was constant. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who was always ready to help his daughters and any member of the family. If someone needed a hand, everyone knew the answer to the question, "Who should we call?" was always, "Call Travis." He was the first to show up, and the one you could count on.
Travis will be remembered for his unwavering commitment to his family, his profession, and the people he served. As a trusted banker, he devoted his career to helping individuals, families, and agricultural businesses achieve their financial goals. His steady guidance, genuine care for others, and dedication to his community, earned the respect and friendship of many, leaving a lasting legacy that will be remembered for years to come.
He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Ellen; daughters, Natasha (Josh), Vanessa (Adam), and Paige (Michael); grandchildren, Meghan, Haley, Brody, Kennedy, Parker, Dylan, Brooks, and one on the way; parents, Tom and Agnes; siblings, Scott (Sheri), Aaron (Jeana), Shana (Tim), Sheri (Chris), and Brandon (Mayra); nieces and nephews; Casey, Savannah, Mattea, Jacob, Cole, Adnyra, Drew, Rylee, and Clayton; aunts, Kenlyn Kimpfbeck, Dee Streeck, Merry Meltz, Angie Buchelt; uncles, Merrill (Gennaro DeVito) )Meltz, Chuck (Gayle) Meltz, Don Gray; as well as other relatives and friends.
Travis was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ken and Dorothy Holt, and Merrill and Beatrice Meltz; aunts, Jan VanWormer, and Laurel Gray; uncles, George Streeck, Bill VanWormer and Jim Kimpfbeck; as well as brother-in-law, Jeff Hicken.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 31, 2026 at Redlin-Ertz Funeral Home, in Baraboo, from NOON until 3pm. A private family service will occur at a later time.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Travis’s name may be made out Team Rubicon or to the Wisconsin FFA Foundation, Inc.
Travis' legacy of generosity lives on through the gift of organ donation. Through this final act of selflessness, he has given the gift of life to three individuals thus far.

Ellen and Family, we are deeply saddened to hear of Travis' sudden passing. Some people leave an imprint not only on a place, but on the people fortunate enough to share it with them. Travis was one of those people. He was taken from his family and friends far too soon, and his passing leaves a void that will be deeply felt throughout our South Bay community. Their happiness together was inspiring and a reminder of the simple joys that make life so meaningful. The grounds will continue to be maintained, the trails will still be ridden, and the seasons will continue to change, but Travis's presence will be deeply missed. His enthusiasm, generosity, and commitment to making South Bay the very best it could be leave a legacy that will not be forgotten. Our hearts are with Ellen, their family, and all who loved him during this incredibly difficult time. May the many memories of laughter, adventure, friendship, and love provide comfort in the days ahead. Rest peacefully, Travis. Thank you for helping make South Bay a better place for all of us.

Ellen and family - I am saddened by Travis' passing and so sorry for your loss. Travis was a state FFA officer a couple years after me, we were at UW-Madison together and served on the State FFA Foundation board together. It was during our time on the board that we were able to reconnect. I am not afraid to say that he was the smartest person in the room during our meetings. His support and passion for Wisconsin FFA left its mark and he left it in a better place. I also enjoyed our chance meetings at the Timbers at Elberts Resort.
