Fredrick A. Gasner , Age 79
Fredrick A. "Fred" Gasner, age 79, of Baraboo, passed away on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison.
Fred, the son of Marvin and Ellen (Lindley) Gasner, was born on March 2, 1947, in Baraboo. He was raised in Baraboo and graduated from Baraboo High School with the Class of 1965.
Fred proudly served on the Baraboo Fire Department for over 40 years, dedicating himself to protecting and serving his community. During his time with the department, he also served as secretary. In addition, Fred was an EMT with the Baraboo Ambulance Service, continuing his lifelong commitment to helping others.
A devoted sports enthusiast, Fred spent more than 40 years serving as a basketball referee and softball umpire. He enjoyed being part of the games and was well known and respected by all athletes and coaches in the area.
Fred spent many years working for Deppe Enterprises; and most recently, worked at Glacier Valley and Don Larson Ford dealership.
Fred is survived by his daughter, Pamela (Dan) Harrison; siblings, Charles “Punky" Gasner, and Mary (Mike) Otto, sister-in-law, Kathy Gasner; nieces, Brenda (Trent) Bentilla, Theresa (Aaron) Scott, Gina (Jim) Smith, Denee (John) Hamilton; nephew Darien (Heather) Gasner, as well as other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Ellen; brother, Tom Gasner; nephew Michael Gasner.
A Funeral Service will be held at Redlin-Ertz Funeral Home at 12:00 noon on Monday, August 3, 2026. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Walnut Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Fred’s name can be made to Professional Firefighters of Wisconsin Charitable Foundation, Inc. or SJS Cancer Support Team.

I was heartbroken when I got the news, Fred was a legend and always there to help anyone that needed it. From protecting our community from fires to umping softball since the late 60s. My condolences to Fred's family, he will be greatly missed!
