Patrick Sylvan Sheil , Age 84


July 14, 1942 --August 17, 2026

Patrick “Pat” Sheil passed away on August 17, 2026 cared for and surrounded by his three daughters, Shannan, Erin and Mehgan.  Pat’s son Sean, has been caring for Pat’s best canine friend and companion, Titan. Titan will remain with Sean as his forever family.

Pat was born to Rosemary (Rooney) and James Sheil on July 14, 1942.  He and his five siblings resided in Baraboo and Reedsburg while growing up.  Pat graduated from Reedsburg High School in 1960 and joined the Navy shortly thereafter.  He was stationed in Skaggs Island, California, Adak, Alaska and Edzell, Scotland. Pat is also a proud Vietnam War Veteran, having served on the communications interception ship, the Jamestown.  Pat was awarded three bronze stars during his tenure in Vietnam.

Pat was married to Diane Jones in 1963. Together they share two daughters, Shannan (Ethan Carlson) Morgan and Erin (Joe Zons) Sheil.  

Pat was married to Nancy Dickman in 1985. Together they share two children, Meghan (Paul) Huskey and Sean (Hailey Alexander) Sheil.

After his discharge from the Navy Pat became a law enforcement officer.  He first served as a Deputy for the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Department in California for several years until the death of his patrol partner.  Pat went on to work for the Sauk County Sherriff’s Department from 1971 to 1984, being promoted to Detective in 1975.  Pat received the honor of “Police Officer of the year” in 1984 for his tenacity in solving a large drug conspiracy.

Pat became a certified drug and alcohol counselor in 1985. He worked for St. Agnes Hospital until the time of his retirement in 2009. Pat was also very proud to present and be a part of the ASTOP Sexual Abuse Program in Fon du Lac County.

Pat is survived by his siblings, Wayne (LaNita) Sheil, Sharon Kehoe, Diane (Jim) Jacobson and Linda (Kevin) Anderson. Pat is further survived by his children and grandchildren; Bailey, Collin (Karlee), Brianna, Liam (Kayleigh), Brody and Brock, Natalie and Melissa.     Pat also has a great granddaughter Evie, great grandson, Lucian and a great grandbaby girl who is due to be born in December.  Pat was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Debra and infant grandson, Logan.

A memorial service for Pat will be held on Wednesday, August 26, 2026 at Redlin-Ertz Funeral Home at 12pm. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until the time of service on Wednesday. A private family service and military honors will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
