John Thomas Burchett

John Thomas Burchett, age 67, of Baraboo, Wisconsin, passed away surrounded by family on September 17, 2026. Born on January 14, 1959, in Dover, Delaware, John was the son of Bob and Nina Thompson. His life was marked by deep faith, steady kindness, and a quiet devotion to the people he loved.

John married Jan Burchett in 1998, and together they built a life filled with love, family, and the everyday moments that mattered most to them. He worked as a security officer for many years, most recently at SSM Health St. Clare Hospital in Baraboo, a role he truly cherished. John took pride in helping others, offering calm reassurance and a steady presence to patients, staff, and visitors. Over the years, he formed close friendships with coworkers who became like family, and he valued those relationships deeply.

John loved Jesus, and he lived his faith through generosity, patience, and compassion. He found joy in fishing, working on his boat, reading, playing chess, and cheering on his beloved Minnesota Vikings. He was happiest when surrounded by family, especially his grandchildren, whom he adored and supported with all his heart.

John is survived by his wife, Jan, and by his children and their families: his daughter Nina Donegan, her husband Jason, and his grandchildren Aubrey and Ashton; his daughter Faith Wheaton, her wife Maegan, and his grandchildren Evelyn, Elias, and Ezra; his son Johnny Burchett, his wife Jackie, and his grandchildren Annie, Jilly, Johnny, and Andrew; and his son Kyle Littlefield, his wife Sarah, and his granddaughters Kathryn and Samantha.

John is also survived by his father Bob and by his siblings; his sister Elizabeth Tomlinson and her children Alanna, Ivy, Naomi, Savanna, Bobby, and Charlie; his sister Christy Saiia and her children Tessa, Janna, Caleb, and Andrew; his sister Debbi Spears’ children, Rachel Tourdot, Rebekah Spears, and Rachelle Spears; his brother Wes Burchett, along with his wife Leeann, are parents to Christine, Corrine, and Evan.  He is also survived by numerous greatnieces and greatnephews. 

John was preceded in death by his mother Nina; his sister Debbi; his niece Nadyne; and his biological father Evan “Tom” Burchett.

John was cremated, and no public viewing will be held. A visitation will be held on Monday, September 28th, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at RedlinErtz Funeral Home, 401 Madison Avenue, Baraboo, WI 53913. Military honors will be rendered at 1:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital in Madison, a place John deeply respected for its service to veterans.

John will be remembered for his faith, his humor, his love of family, and the steady kindness he offered to everyone he met. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the family who loved him dearly.
