Laura Sloan, 86, of Baraboo, Wisconsin, passed away on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, surrounded by her family, just 24 days after the passing of her beloved husband, Robert Sloan.
Laura was born on June 2, 1940, in Whitehall, Wisconsin, to George and Clara Hanson. She spent her childhood on the family farm in Hixton, Wisconsin, and graduated from the University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire with degrees in elementary education and library science.
Laura married Bob on August 14, 1965, and they began their family in Lake Bluff, Illinois, welcoming their daughter, Kristin, in 1968, and their son, Scott, in 1970. In 1980, the family moved to Baraboo, where they made their home.
Laura spent her career in education, teaching in Wisconsin Rapids, Deerfield, and Lake Bluff before retiring as the librarian at Baraboo’s East School. She enjoyed reading, word puzzles, games, Words With Friends, and was involved in the Fairfield Birthday Club and Presbyterian Women.
Laura is survived by her two children, Kristin Hardy (David) and Scott Sloan (Tiffany); her five grandchildren, Rachel Brown (Alberto), Alexis Brown (Byron), Jacob Brown, Peyton Sloan, and Wyatt Sloan; and her four great-grandchildren, Riley, Lyla, Margot, and Arlo.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bob; her parents, George and Clara Hanson; her brother, Owen Hanson; her sister-in-law, Joyce Hanson; and other relatives and friends.
After more than 61 years of marriage and a lifetime spent side by side, Laura and Bob were apart for only 24 days. Their family finds comfort in knowing they are together again.
A private burial will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at Fairfield Cemetery.
