Janette L. Zimmerman


Janette L. (Hammer) Zimmerman of Baraboo died peacefully on Dec. 17, 2012 at Maplewood Nursing Home in Sauk City at the age of 90. Janette was born on January 2, 1922 in Gypsum, Kansas to Harry and Marion (Clark) Hammer.Her family moved to San Pedro, California in 1929. She graduated from San Pedro High School 1940. She graduated from Mercy College of Nursing in San Diego, California in 1945. Janette met George Zimmerman while he was stationed in the Navy and they were married on Feb. 14, 1945. Janette and George moved to Baraboo in January 1946. Janette worked as a Registered Nurse at St. Mary's and St. Clare Hospitals, in the OB dept for approximately 30 years, and helped bring many babies into the world.She is survived by her four children, George (Marite) Zimmerman of Germantown, Donald (Rosie) Zimmerman of Baraboo, Jane (James McGovern) Zimmerman of Baraboo, and Marcia (Steven) Pischke of Custer, SD; six grandchildren, Robert (Nicole) Zimmerman of Oregon, Eric Zimmerman of Germantown, Shaun (Keri) Zimmerman of St. Paul, MN, Angela (Aaron) Hoskins of Baraboo, Kristy ( Mathew) Gilbert of Baraboo, and Brian (Jill) Pischke of New Castle, WY; and eight great-grandchildren, Olivia, Zackery, and Zane Zimmerman, Kaylie Hoskins-Lobe, Arabelle Hoskins, Madilyn and Evan Gilbert, and Joslyn Pischke; brother-in-law, Donald Cole of De Forest; step-sisters, Sharon Goldstrom of Las Vegas, NV and Bonnie Clark of Las Vegas, NV. She is further survived by many nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.Janette was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George in 1985; grandson, Jonathan Zimmerman; sisters, Margaret Dews and Shirley Smith.A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, Dec. 21, 2012 at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Baraboo with Pastor Donna Miller officiating. Visitation will be held from 1-2 p.m. at the church. The Redlin Funeral Home of Baraboo is assisting the family.Janette was a warm unassuming woman with an unexpected, dry sense of humor. Her greatest joy was her family.
