Stephen John Lobaugh


Stephen John Lobaugh, age 64 of Baraboo, passed away peacefully on Sunday evening, Dec. 23, 2012, at St. Clare Meadows Care Center surrounded by family after a hard fought battle with cancer. Born in Baraboo in 1948, the son of Dr. John and Thelma Lobaugh, "Steve" graduated from Baraboo High School and the University of Wisconsin - Madison with a degree in Soil Conservation and Cartography. Early in his career, he worked as a Cartographer for the University of Nebraska and later was employed in a similar role by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed sailing, biking and cross country skiing. Steve had a wonderful mind and was renowned for his encyclopedic knowledge of many subjects. He enjoyed good times with friends, relished his visits with family and took pride in supporting his nieces and nephew in their youthful activities and endeavors.He is survived by his mother, Thelma Lobaugh; brothers, Thomas (Irina) Lobaugh and Mark (Debbie) Lobaugh; sister, Mary (Mike) Luther; nieces Kara (Brad) Bjorklund, Melissa (Shane) Workman, Jenny Lobaugh, Cassandra Luther, Jessica (Andrew) Dye and Julia Lobaugh; nephew Nicholas Lobaugh; aunt, Joan (Jerry) Layman; uncle, Roland Sundberg.He was preceded in death by his brother, Timothy, and father, John Lobaugh. Steve will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him.A Celebration of his life will be held in March. A notice will run in a later edition of Baraboo News Republic.
