Eugene K. McGonigle

Eugene "Gene/Geno/Irish" K. McGonigle, 80, joined his wife in heaven under the care of St. Clare Hospital on Friday, Feb. 22, 2013. He went peacefully in the lovely arms of his family.Gene, born May 26, 1932 in South Dakota, was the son to Leo and Mary (McCormick) McGonigle. He married Myra (Mickey) McMahon on Sept. 15, 1953.Gene was very proud to be a part of the United States Army from 1950-1952, serving his country in Germany. During his time in the Army, he won the Golden Gloves Boxing Award. After serving his country, he and Mickey started their own family here in Baraboo. Gene worked for Holiday Wholesale for the majority of his life. The thing he loved the most about his job, were the people he worked for and with. His co-workers and his customers on route were like a second family to Gene, as he created several new friendships over the years. He was an active member of the Trinity Episcopal Church.He is survived by sons, Robert McGonigle, David (Pam) McGonigle, both of Baraboo. He was a proud grandfather to six; Brittany, Kristin and Kayla, all of Baraboo, Danielle of San Diego, Calif., Joseph of Phoenix, Ariz., and Trevor of Beaver Dam. He is further survived by a brother-in-law, Wayne McMahon of Kansas City, MO, several nieces and nephews and many wonderful lifelong friends.He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Mickey of 59 years; brother, John "Bob", sisters, Mary and Dorothy; and children, Ruth (at birth), Gary and Daniel.Funeral services will be held 11a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013 at Trinity Episcopal Church in Baraboo with Father Scott Seefeldt officiating. Burial will be held at Walnut Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 7p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013 at Redlin Funeral Home of Baraboo, and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church on Thursday. Military Rites will be conducted by the Baraboo Veterans Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family are appreciated to be used at a later date.A special thank you to the medical staff that cared for Gene and his close friends and family who were always there for support.
