Ann Whorral


Ann Maletic Whorral, 98, ofBaraboo,WI, formerly ofBaden,PA, passed into eternal life peacefully onJuly 23, 2013.Ann, or "Honey, or Aunt Honey" as she was affectionately known to most, was born onNovember 28, 1914, inAmbridge,PA. Her parents were John and Agnes (Zaharia) Maletic. She was united in marriage to George W. Whorral, Jr. onFebruary 11, 1937. They were blessed with three children, Eric,Fort Washington,PA; GeorgeIII,Silver Spring,MD; and Johann Whorral Mortimer, Baraboo, WI.Ann graduated fromAmbridgeHigh Schoolin 1933, where she played basketball forPrincetonin the first Yale-Princeton girl's basketball game in 1931. Ann began her work career for F.W. Woolworth; then the AmBee Dress Shop; and then J.C. Penney Company, where she retired with over 25 years of faithful service. After retiring, Ann was a dedicated volunteer with the Ambridge Meals on Wheels program; and was a senior volunteer at theHighlandElementary School. Ann was a regular at the many Bingo gatherings in Ambridge. In August 2002, after 88 years of living in the Baden/Ambridge area, Ann moved toBaraboo,WIto live near her daughter and son-in law. There she became active in the localSeniorCitizenCenter's Bingo games; Tuesday's Quilting Guild making quilts for disabled veterans and orphaned children; and organized the Wednesday bingo game in her senior apartment complex.Ann is survived by and will be deeply missed by her children, Eric (Louise), George (Carol), Johann (Ed) Mortimer; grandchildren, Gregory, Christopher (Phyllis), Denise (Kenny) Oseneek, George (Jennifer), Matthew; step-grandchildren, Dale (Cindy) Mortimer, Lone Rock, Loree Rajchel, Madison; great-grandchildren, Michael, Sydney, Justin, Jessica, Tommy, Zachary, Leah, Katelyn, Megan; step-great-grandchildren, Adam, Alex, and Rebecca; and many nieces; nephews; other relatives; and many friends in Baraboo and the Baden/Ambridge, PA area.She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Agnes Maletic; her loving husband of 44 years, George W. Whorral, Jr.; sisters, Mary Zahner, and Catherine Hendzel, Eva Conti; brothers, John Maletic, Frank Maletic; and her beautiful granddaughter, Lisa LoBasso-Whorral.Friends will be received at the John Syka Funeral Home,833 Kennedy Drive,Ambridge, Pa. from6-8 p.m.onFriday, July 26, 2013. Services will be held onSaturday, July 27, 2013, at St. Stephens Episcopal Church,405 Frederick Street,Sewickley, PA. at 1:30 p.m., with the Rev. Dr. Stephen Noll officiating. Burial will follow inAlleghenyCountyMemorial Park,1600 Duncan Avenue, Allison Park, PA. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society or an organization of your choice.
