Daunene Gwen Shaw Jelinek


Daunene Gwen Shaw Jelinek, age 93, of Baraboo, passed away on Monday, August 12, 2013 at St. Clare Meadows Recovery Center. Daunene was born on February 27, 1920 to Martin and Jessie (Johnson) Weirich in the farmhouse across from Man Mound Park. She graduated from Baraboo High School in 1937 and from St. Mary's School of Nursing in Madison in 1941. She married Jesse W. Shaw, M.D. in Norman, Oklahoma on Dec. 27, 1941. After he returned from WWII, they moved to several locations in Illinois before settling in Manitowoc, Wisconsin in 1951. Jesse was a member of the Manitowoc Clinic. Jesse and Dawn were active in the community Jesse died in August, 1964. Dawn bought, remodeled, and moved into the Man Mound School House in 1968. On June 30, 1968 Dawn married Frank Jelinek in Baraboo at the Advent Christian Church. She moved to Berwyn, Illinois until both of them retired and then they made the school house their primary residence. Frank died in November, 1985.Dawn loved to be outdoors. She shared her garden produce with everyone she knew. She was a nurse and cared for many family members when needed. She enjoyed traveling. Her letters to family members will be missed. Her family and friends knew that she was praying for them. She was a member of New Life Community Advent Christian Church. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren looked forward to spending time with her, because she always gave them her full attention and love. Each day gave her an opportunity to do at least one good deed for someone else.She leaves behind a daughter, Susan (John) Meyer of Oshkosh, a son, David (Janice) Shaw of Baraboo, and a daughter, Sara Bleeker of Osage, Iowa. She has a brother, Ralph (Carolyn) Weirich of Baraboo and a step son, Frank Jelinek, Jr. She leaves 14 grandchildren, more than 25 great grandchildren and many more who called her, "Grandma". She was preceded in death by her sisters, Elizabeth Harrison Seymour and Racheal Martin.A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 17, 2013 at 11 a.m. at New Life Community Advent Christian Church with Pastor Jesse Stevens officiating. Family will greet visitors on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of services at the church. Interment will follow at Walnut Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may given to New Life Community Advent Christian Church in Baraboo, or to the Sauk County Historical Society to be used toward the Man Mound Park Fund. The Redlin Funeral Home is assisting the family.
