Esther S. Traxler


Esther S. Traxler, age 97, of Rice Lake formerly of Baraboo passed away Wednesday, December 25, 2013 at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Rice Lake. Esther, daughter of Gustav and Bertha (Kamin) Glaser was born March 10, 1916 in Quinnesec, MI. Esther was united in marriage to Perry L. Traxler on October 14, 1934 in Baraboo. Together they lived in Baraboo and moved to Waukegan, IL during WWII. After the war, they moved to Lake Delton. From there, they moved to Waukesha. After his death, Esther moved to Baraboo for several years before moving to Rice Lake.Esther was a high school graduate of Iron Mountain, MI. She was a homemaker and a Head Cook for the Hot Lunch Program at Lake Delton Grade School in the 1950's.Esther loved cooking and baking. She was famous in the family for her delicious pies and angel food birthday cakes. She enjoyed cards, dancing, and country western music. She was an avid fan of stock car racing, basketball, and baseball, especially The Brewers, and even became a Packer fan in her 90's.She is survived by her children, Lorraine (Mike) Steinhorst of Baraboo, and Alice (Bill) Bhend of Birchwood; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild; brothers, Alfred (Eunice) Glaser of Kingsford, MI, and Elmer (Lois) Glaser of Yakema, WA.Esther was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Perry; sisters, Alice (Millard) White, Lillian (Charles) VanKueren, Evelyn Glaser, Florence (Kenneth) Guhse; brother, Wallie (Norma) Glaser; and infant brother, Carl Glaser.Funeral Services will be held at 11am on Saturday, January 4, 2014, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Baraboo with Pastor Karen Hofstad officiating. Visitation will be held from 10am until the time of service at the church. Burial will follow in Fairfield township. The family would like to thank the staff of Heritage Manor for their wonderful care while Esther was there. Redlin Funeral Home is assisting the family.
