Joan R. Goethel


Joan R. Goethel, 92, of Baraboo passed away Monday, January 6, 2014 at the Sauk County Health Care Center in Reedsburg. Joan, daughter of Frank and Harriet Roach was born on October 11, 1921 in Eau Claire. She was united in marriage to Charles Goethel on July 8, 1946 at St. Patrick's in Eau Claire.Joan was an active member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church as well as various church groups including the Legion of Mary. She was a proud recipient of the Paragon Award. Joan volunteered years of service to the St. Clare Meadows Care Center. Family always came first for Joan. After raising 11 children, she and Charles enjoyed traveling, especially salmon fishing on Lake Michigan. She was a good mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to her family. She is survived by her children, Margaret (John) Biwersi of Maplewood, MN, Chuck (Jan) Goethel of Eau Claire, John (Linda) Goethel of Baraboo, Tom (Terry) Goethel of Baraboo, Paul (Sheila) Goethel of Baraboo, Joan (Ron) Brecka of Baraboo, Mark (Beth) Goethel of Glen Allen, VA, Dan (Kelly) Goethel of Mt. Juliet, TN, Matt (Diane) Goethel of Farmington, MN, Pete (Beth) Goethel of Baraboo; she is further survived by 26 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; siblings, Alice (LeRoy) Drinkman of Eau Claire, Mae (Metro) Maznio of Cable, Nancy Glocke of Burnsville, MN and Patrick (Joyce) Roach of Omaha, NE as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.Joan was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles; daughter, Rita Ann Goethel; sisters, Barbara (Jim) Haugen and Janet (Romaine) Robillard and brother-in-law, Carl Glocke.A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Friday, Jan. 10, 2014 at 11 a.m. with Father Jay Poster officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014 at Redlin Funeral Home from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. and at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of mass. A Rosary will be held on Thursday at the funeral home at 3:30 p.m. Burial will follow the mass at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church or the Sauk County Health Care Center. The family would like to extend a special thank you to all who cared for Joan, especially the staff of the Sauk County Health Care Center and Meadow Ridge.
