Michael T. Lew


Michael T. Lew, age 67 of Wisconsin Dells, passed away on Thursday, July 24, 2014 at St. Clare Hospital in Baraboo. Michael, the son of Irwin and Mavis (Schlabach) Cornfield, was born on October 22, 1946 in Milwaukee. He was united in marriage to Julie C. Gregus in Beloit, Wisconsin on February 19, 1983. Mike received a M.A. in Public Policy and Administration from the University of Wisconsin. He retired after more than 30 years in Management with the Wisconsin Department of Corrections. Mike had been an instructor for the Wisconsin Corrections Training Academy and the Wisconsin Judicial College. He also was a member of the faculty of the University of Phoenix. Mike was very engaged in his community having served as a facilitator of the "Living Well with Chronic Conditions" ADRC, and served on: the Executive Board of the Greater Wisconsin Aging on Aging Resources, the Wisconsin Aging Advocacy Network, the Sauk County Care Transitions Committee; the Sauk County Council on Collaborative Initiatives; St. Clare Hospital Care Core; Reedsburg area Concerned Citizens Group; and as a volunteer tax preparer with VITA/TCE and volunteer project manager for the Sauk County Aging and Disabilities Resource Center. Mike loved to travel and had many great vacations with his wife, Julie. He also enjoyed painting with water colors, golf, and being a member of the Fitchburg Serenity Club. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Julie; three sisters, Judy Cornfield, Susan Kohnke, and Kathy Cornfield (Rick Lipscomb); a brother-in-law, Michael (Darlene) Gregus; and four sisters-in law, Terri, Mary, Rita and Barbara Gregus. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. Mike was preceded in death by his parents; a brother-in-law, David Gregus; and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Frank and Marion Gregus. A celebration of Mike's life will be held at a later date. For those who wish to do so, memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society, Home Health United Hospice of Baraboo or St. Clare Hospital, Baraboo. The Redlin Funeral Home is assisting the family.
