Miriam Edith Barnhart


Miriam Edith Barnhart, age 90, of Baraboo passed away Saturday, July 5, 2014 at St. Clare Meadow's Care Center. Miriam, daughter of Joseph and Edith (Van Engen) Harris, was born on October 6, 1923. She was united in marriage to John A. Barnhart on June 25, 1946.Together with her husband's family corporation, Miriam worked at Barnhart's Badger Paint Store, and later, Barnhart's Fine Foods. After a fire destroyed the store, they went on to run Uncle Barney's Barnyard until John's passing, when she then retired to her farmette on Hwy 136.She and her husband always enjoyed the many families and children that came to visit the Barnyard. They made many great friendships with those who came to enjoy the fun.Miriam loved to garden. She grew many plants and flowers. She also enjoyed horses, and had many animals which she loved to care for.Miriam is survived by her daughters, Edith "Eydie" Ridder and Colleen Burtts; as well as her granddaughter, Amy Burtts. She furthered survived by other relatives and many friends.She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; sister, Leota Paul; and brother, Ralph Harris.Graveside Services will be held on Thursday, July 10, 2014 at 10:30am, at Walnut Hill Cemetery, with Chaplin Karen Schilling officiating.A special Thank you to all the great staff at St. Clare Meadows Care Center, for all their excellent care and compassion; and to the Meadows 3:00 Coffee Clutch group for their friendship.
