Lois E. Clement


Lois E. Clement, age 95 of Baraboo, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 7, 2014 at Oak Park Place in Baraboo. Lois was born July 14, 1918, in the Township of Sumpter, the daughter of Art and Ella (Steuber) Waffenschmidt. She graduated from Prairie du Sac High School in 1936. On Dec. 1, 1937 she was united in marriage to Harry Clement, who preceded her in death on June 18, 1992.Lois is survived by her children, Jim (Donna) Clement of Baraboo, Sandy (Roger) Ver Velde of Loudon, Tennessee and Julie (Dennis) Shanks of Blue Mounds; seven grandchildren, Deborah (Jerry) Cavins, Gary (Marie) Clement, Eugene Clement, Mike (Amy) Ver Velde, Tracy Ver Velde, Tere (Mike) Murphy, and Marc (Christa) Shanks; 11 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.In addition to her parents and husband, Harry, she was also preceded in death by a brother, Thomas "Bud" Waffenschmidt, sisters, Byrdell Roundy and May Dudley; grandson, Tony Shanks; great-granddaughter, Sabrina Clement and great-grandson, William Shanks.Lois and Harry were the original owners of the Spinning Wheel Motel in Baraboo which they operated for over ten years beginning in 1961. After that they enjoyed restoring and selling antiques and spending the winter months in Fort Meyers Beach, Florida.Lois will be remembered for her quick wit and unique sense of humor. Her joys in life were the arts, decorating, needlework, planting flowers, and traveling worldwide with the Orient always being her favorite of all trips. She also enjoyed volunteering at the hospital gift shop and Circus World Museum where she tended to the flowers.Lois's family would like to thank the staff at Oak Park Place in Baraboo for their wonderful help and support over the last five years, and also Agrace HospiceCare for their compassion and care during her last few weeks.A private family gathering and remembrance will take place at a later date at the Walnut Hill Cemetery. The Redlin Funeral Home is assisting the family.
