Roy “Buddy” Meyers


Roy "Buddy" Meyers, age 88 of Baraboo, died peacefully at home on Saturday, Nov. 15, 2014. Roy, son of Roy E. and Ida (Zimmerly) Meyers was born March 17, 1926 in Baraboo. He attended St. John's Lutheran School and Baraboo High School. He was a WWII Veteran; in 1943 he enlisted in the United States Navy. Roy was stationed on the battleship U.S.S. Massachusetts in Tokyo Bay next to the U.S.S. Missouri. During his time in the service he saw the Peace Treaty signed. He was honorably discharged in 1945. On Dec. 17, 1949 he was united in marriage to Betty Klemm. In 1945 he worked for Richardson Paint Co. traveling from Texas to Indiana working on power lines. Then in 1960 he went to work for N.G. Gilbert in Muncie, Indiana on substations and power line construction. He started his own company, Roy Painting and Decorating in Kokomo, Indiana in 1970, doing residential, commercial and industrial painting until moving back to Baraboo to be with family and friends in 2011. He got his private pilot's license in 1960. During his lifetime, he owned four different planes; from a tail dragger to a retractable landing gear. This was the love of his life. He also loved traveling, especially cruises to Aruba, Costa Rica, Jamaica, Martinique, Virgin Islands, Panama, and the Bahamas. He looked forward every year to a trip with his wife, Betty; sister, Joyce and close friends Pat and Tom Hunn. Roy was a Life Member of VFW, Post 1152 in Kokomo, the American Legion of Indiana and Baraboo for 58 years; 40 N 8 #1103 in Kokomo for 58 years.He is survived by his wife, Betty; foster sons, William Molden, David Molden; siblings, Curtis Meyers, Audrey Parker, Dean (Ann) Meyers, Wayne (Nancy) Meyers Joyce (Chuck) Hamilton, Jerry Meyers; as well as many, many nieces, nephews and friends.He was preceded in death by his brothers, Duane Meyers, Edwin "Eddy" Meyers, Virgil Meyers as well as sisters, Arphalyn Boyd and Lois Cass.Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Redlin Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Rock Hill Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by the Baraboo Veterans Honor Guard.
