Edward Kurtz


Edward, age 90 of Baraboo, passed away on Jan. 2, 2015. Ed was born in Greenfield Township near Baraboo on Oct. 31, 1924 to Edward and Hulda Kurtz. He attended St. John's Lutheran School, Baraboo Senior High School and the University of Wisconsin where he graduated in 1949.Ed served in the United States Marine Corps for three years during World War II and served in combat on five different islands in the Pacific. Ed was united in marriage to the love of his life, Jeanne Kerr of Portage in 1948 and following their graduation from the University, they moved to Phoenix, Arizona to learn and study the furniture business. After three years they moved back to Baraboo and he became part owner and partner in the McGann-Kurtz furniture business. After 30 years, he sold his interest and retired in 1982.During his years in business, Ed was a member of numerous service and business organizations and assumed leadership in many. Edward was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Jeanne, and is survived by his son, Richard (Tina) Kurtz and daughter, Carole (Peter) Paquette; grandchildren, Cory (Tiffany) Kurtz, Carey (Jamie) Ueland, David (Deneb) Paquette, Michaela (Justin) Yesis, Hudson Jackson-Kurtz; great-grandson, Conrad Kurtz; and also survived by his beloved companion, Sandra Peper.As per Edwards request there will be no funeral, however, he and the family invite anyone interested to join them in a Celebration of his life at the Baraboo Country Club on Saturday, May 9, 2015 from 3 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to St. Clare Hospice House, 915 12th St., Baraboo, WI 53913.The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Home Health United Home Care and Hospice for the marvelous care shown to Ed over the last six months.
