John D. Thompson, age 80 of Baraboo, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2015 at his son, Jerry's home in Baraboo Township. John, son of Theodore and Marie (Koberstein) Thompson was born Jan. 30, 1934 in Baraboo. On July 27, 1963 he was united in marriage to Patricia Lychalk in New York. He was employed in sales for over 30 years until his retirement. John proudly served in the National Guard in Baraboo. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Baraboo. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing with his brother-in-law, Toby, hiking, and going for rides with his wife. John was an avid Packers fan.He is survived by his four children, John T. (Sally) Thompson of Menomonie, Jeff (Dawn) Thompson of Baraboo, Jerry (Sonja) Thompson of North Freedom, Judy (Shawn) Thayer of Ashland; grandchildren, David, Ben, Nathan (Kayla Fuller), Andrew, Jake, Paul (Tanya), Brittany (Mike), Katie (Ryan) Kurt; great-grandchildren, Connor, Emma, Payton, Rayha, Rachel, Ross; and his sister, Corrine (Toby) Goecks of Baraboo as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Patricia.A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, Jan. 9, 2015 at 2 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Garrett Kau officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday from 1 p.m. until the time of mass at the church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. The Redlin Funeral Home is assisting the family.
