Donald Gordon Marshall


Donald Gordon Marshall, age 101 of Baraboo, died on Saturday, June 20, 2015 at St. Clare Meadows Care Center in Baraboo. Donald, the son of Jabez J. and Nora G. (Miller) Marshall, was born on March 25, 1914 in the Town of Ironton in Sauk County, Wisconsin. After school and working on the family farm for several years, Don enlisted in the U.S. Army in June of 1942 during World War II. He entered combat overseas as a Private and was discharged as a 1st Sergeant on Dec. 21, 1945, having earned all of the battle field promotions awarded during that time. Following service he returned to the farm in Sauk County where he raised cattle, chickens and pigs. Don was united in marriage to Anna (Bettendorf) Ruda on June 15, 1985. She preceded him in death on July 25, 1989. He later married Margaret (James) Bender on April 26, 1993 in Baraboo. She preceded him in death on July 20, 2014. After retiring from farming, Don was employed at Wonder Wash for several years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Baraboo and American Legion Post No. 149 in Cazenovia. Don's favorite pastime was tending to his flowers.He is survived by, daughter-in-law, Rajean Bender of Baraboo; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Marshall of Reedsburg and Hope Marshall of Fort Worth, TX; nieces; nephews; grandchildren; special step-grandson, Brock Sainsbury, as well as other relatives and friends.Don was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Anna and his second wife, Margaret; sisters, Inez Kraemer and Arlene Marshall; brothers, Ivan, Gaylord, Jim, and Byron Marshall.Memorial Services will be held on Friday, June 26, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Redlin Funeral Home with Lay Minister George Burgess officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Inurnment will follow at Walnut Hill Cemetery in Baraboo with Military Rites conducted by the Baraboo Veterans Honor Guard. Memorials may be made to the American Legion Post No. 149 in Cazenovia.
