Henry W. Meyer


Henry W. Meyer, Sr., age 95, of Baraboo passed away on Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at St. Clare Hospice House.Henry, son of Fred and Ida (Schuman) Meyer was born in the Township of Burke in Dane County on April 4, 1920. He graduated from Oxford High School in the class of 1940. On June 13, 1942 Henry enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina where he met his future wife, Annie Mae Howard. On May 8, 1944 , they united in marriage in Statesville, North Carolina. On Dec. 20, 1945 he was honorably discharged from the Army with the rank of Master Sergeant. In his early years he worked at Marshall Wells Store, Grady's Appliance and Sewing Center but later retired from Peterson Electric. After his retirement he worked part time for Action Electric. He was a lifetime member of the DAV as well as the First United Methodist Church in Baraboo. In his free time, Henry enjoyed fishing and hunting.He is survived by his children, Karen (Leo) Froese of Prairie du Sac, Henry "Bill" (Julie) Meyer, Jr. of Baraboo and Pat (Dan) Church of Baraboo; four grandchildren, Jennifer (Tim) Green of Portage, Robert Church of Baraboo, Kevin Meyer of Portage and Nicholas Meyer of Portage; great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn Annie Mae Meyer of Portage, who was born on his birthday; sister-in-law, Ruby Meyer of Portage; as well as nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 60 years, Annie on Feb. 5, 2005; brothers, Paul, Carl and Chris Meyer; as well as his nephew, Bob Meyer.Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 27, 2015 at First United Methodist Church with Pastor James Cotter officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Burial will follow at Walnut Hill Cemetery where Military Rites will be conducted by the Baraboo Veterans Honor Guard. The Redlin Funeral Home is assisting the family.
