Ethel E. Smith, age 96, a lifelong Baraboo area resident, passed away on Saturday, July 4, 2015 at St. Clare Meadows Care Center. The former Ethel E. Schultz was born in Merrimac on Nov. 17, 1918. Ethel retired after working many years at Eagle Signal.Survivors include one son, Jerry (Diane) Smith of LaValle, three grandsons, Terry (Terry Lynn) Smith of Baraboo, Tim Smith of Baraboo, Damon Derleth of Sauk City; one great-granddaughter, Brittney Smith; three step-great-grandsons, Josh Wendorf, John McCullick, Jeff McCullick; one step-great-granddaughter, Kara Drager; eight step-great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Eldora Schaeffer of Waunakee; one brother-in-law, Don Droste of Portage; one sister-in-law, Lyla Schultz of Merrimac, along with many nieces, nephews and their families.Ethel was preceded in death by her parents, Julius and Mary Schultz; one son, David Smith; three brothers, Delbert, LaVern and Willis; three sisters, Evelyn Newton, Reinetta Hooker and Deloris Droste; sister-in-law, Elnora Schultz and her brothers-in-law, Delton Newton, and Dallas "Tex" Schaeffer.Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 727 8th St. in Baraboo with Pastor Karen Hofstad officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Burial will follow at Walnut Hill Cemetery. The Redlin Funeral Home is assisting the family.
