Betty Mae Wendt


Betty Mae Wendt, 88, of Baraboo passed away on April 16, 2016 surrounded by family at St. Clare Hospice House in Baraboo.Betty was born on Sept. 5, 1927 to Jesse and Dolly Decker in Reedsburg. On June 8, 1946 she married Lester Wendt and they raised 6 children and two brothers. She moved to Baraboo in 2002.She and Lester worked a large dairy farm and raised a family of whom they were most proud. Betty volunteered for many charitable and civic organizations. She was very successful in sales for the Merrimac Shopper Stopper. She also worked at Devils Head Resort for many years. Betty stated that her greatest achievement in life was her wonderful family, and asked, "don't cry for me when I'm gone, I had a long and wonderful life".She is survived by her children, Barbara (Ronald) Dobrinska, Beverly Higgins, Mike Wendt, Becky (Gary) Jenkins, and Lonnie Wendt; 8 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren, her sister, Evelyn (Gene) Thompson and brother, Richard (Janice) Decker and many nieces and nephews.Betty was preceded in death by husband, Lester; son, Larry Wendt; grandsons, Cameron Wendt and Nicholas Wendt; brothers, Gerald, Donald and William Decker and Joe DuVall; son-in-law, Gene Higgins.Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at United Methodist Church in Merrimac with Pastor Roxi Gnatzig officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Merrimac. The family would like to thank the staff at St. Clare Hospice House for the compassionate care their mom received during her short stay there.The Redlin Funeral Home is assisting the family.
