Lucy Weiss


Lucy (Morawetz) Weiss was born July 9, 1921 to Rudolf and Dorothea Morawetz in Vienna, Austria. She peacefully passed away to go with God on April 16, 2016.In 1939 Lucy traveled on the Kindertrain to England. She was a German/English translator in the hospital for the Medical Doctors working in surgery.In 1941 she came to the USA aboard a freighter, carrying other Holocaust survivors.Lucy is survived by two daughters, Deanna Sue Weiss (Gary Dale Allen) and Francis Fay Alu (Leonard Alu) both of Baraboo; one granddaughter, Trudy Ann Maatta, Lindenhurst, IL., one great grandson Mitchell Richard Maatta, and one great-great granddaughter, Gracie Ann Maatta; niece, Ann (Jordon) Fox of Fox Point; and great-niece, Lauren and great-nephew, Stephen, great-great-nieces, Kyra, Kendra, Molly and Tess; nephew, Michael (Pat) Bisham and children of London, England.Lucy is also survived by very special friends, David and Shirley Emin, of Albuquerque, New Mexico.After moving to Baraboo, she worked at various department stores in Baraboo: Herberger's, J.C. Penny and Quinlins. For 14 years she worked at Darrow's Country Market as a checker before retirement.Lucy was a life time member of the Baraboo Theatre Guild. She enjoyed bowling and was on a Baraboo bowling league. She loved going on organized wildlife hikes in the Baraboo area.Lucy enjoyed the outdoors helping her daughter Susie at Domino Stables. Lucy preferred not to get too close to the horses, but she loved watching and helping everyone.In 2000 Lucy moved in with Susie and Gary enjoying her days either riding her scooter around the property or sitting with her faithful companion Tipper.Lucy was preceded in death by her ex-husband, Hans Martin Weiss, Baraboo, parents, Rudolf and Dorothea Morawetz, Vienna, Austria, sister Edith (John) Bisham, England. Sister-in law and Brother-in-law, Berthold and Ilse Hessel, Milwaukee.We thank and appreciate Dr. Eric Hamburg and St. Croix Hospice for their help, guidance and support in Lucy's final days of life.A Celebration of Life will be held at Redlin Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at 11 a.m. with Allen Paschen and Rabbi Danial Brenner giving the rites. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
