Carl F. Voll


Carl F. Voll, 88, of Baraboo passed away on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at the St. Clare Hospital after a brief illness. He was born in Lyons (West Baraboo) on June 5, 1927 the third child of Charles and Densie (Carpenter) Voll. He was a graduate of Lyons Grade School and the Baraboo High School and the Maritime Service Center, Sheepshead Bay, NY; where he served ocean duty from June 1945 until March 1947. Upon his discharge he received a letter of commendation and heartfelt thanks from President Harry S. Truman for his courage and fortitude. Carl was employed by Wisconsin Bell, Ameritech and AT&T. He retired from AT&T in 1989 after 41 years of service. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.Carl was united in marriage to Shirley Churchill at the Necedah Methodist Church on June 22, 1952. Carl was very inventive and enjoyed being "Mr. Fix-it" for himself and others. Other favorite pastimes were hunting, fishing, gardening, and all sports; especially the Packers and the Chicago Cubs.Carl is survived by his wife, Shirley; children, Jeff (Cheryl) Voll of Baraboo, Daniel Voll of Fernandino Beach, FL, and Lisa Johnson of Baraboo; three granddaughters, Ashley (fiance Derrick Powers) Voll, Arielle (Jim) Ortega, and Summer (Brian) Newkirk; special friends, Tom and Lila Pollard and Shirley Hess; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lyle and Everett Voll; and sister, Verle Stultz.A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, May 16, 2016 at 1:30pm at the Redlin Funeral Home with Chaplain Ellen Williams-Masson officiating. Visitation will be held from 12:30pm until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will follow service at the Walnut Hill Cemetery.
