Elizabeth M. Schlender


Elizabeth M. "Liz" Schlender, age 91 of Baraboo passed away peacefully at her daughter's home on Saturday, May 28, 2016. Elizabeth, daughter of Lester and Adena (Pribbenow) Breneman was born on Feb. 6, 1925 in Portage and grew up in Poynette. She was a graduate of Portage High School. On March 29, 1946 she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Stuart Schlender in San Francisco; they would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary this year.Liz was the definition of behind every man is a good woman'; while raising her family she was the main support system. While caring for her husband and children she took great care of all household necessities and beyond. She took great pride in her family; always supporting her children and grandchildren in anything they did including the many years of softball games and tournaments. Liz always did anything her family needed without expecting anything in return; she was a selfless wife, mother and grandmother that always put her family before herself. In her free time she enjoyed taking care of her plants, flowers, feeding the birds and knitting. Liz was also a Brewers and Badgers fan. Survivors include her children, Corby (Vera) Schlender, Craig (Elizabeth) Schlender, Clark (Diane) Schlender, Stephanee (Don) Flentje all of Baraboo and Jeffrey Schlender of North Freedom. She is further survived by 15 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; sister, June Fiske; brother, LeRoy Breneman; brother-in-law, Fritz Paske; sister-in-law, Margaret Schaitel as well as other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Stuart on May 26, 2015; and a sister, Beverly Paske. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, June 2, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Emanuel United Methodist Church in Baraboo with Pastor Blake Overlien officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Redlin Funeral Home and also from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday at the church. Burial of Liz and Stuarts ashes will be held at the German-Methodist Cemetery at a later date.The family would like to extend a special thank you to Jenny Schlender, Helen Ann Niebuhr, Janie and Jeff Alsmo as well as Home Health United Hospice and Agrace Hospice for the wonderful care and support they given to shown Liz. To our sister, Stephanee - we will be forever grateful for the loving care you showed mom and for helping to make her last days enjoyable.
