Verna L. Goerks, age 97 of Baraboo passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2017 at St. Clare Meadows Care Center. Verna, daughter of Edwin and Leta (Welke) Kamrath was born Nov. 14, 1919 at the home of her family farm in Troy Township. In 1956 she was united in marriage to Russell Goerks in Baraboo. She worked as a waitress at Sprecher's Cafe in Sauk City and then at the Alpine in Baraboo. In her free time she loved to cook and entertain as well as flowers.Survivors include her niece, Nancy (Gary) Liegel; her nephew that she and Russell helped raise, Donald Goerks and his children, Julie (Morgan) Kennedy, Howard, Daniel and Glen Goerks; sister-in-law, Adeline Kamrath as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Russell; brothers, Lloyd (Iola) and Glen Kamrath; nephews, Ronald and Philip Kamrath; great-nephew, Daren Kamrath; and her best friend, Vi Erlandson.Private graveside services will be held at Walnut Hill Cemetery. The Redlin Funeral Home is assisting the family. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses and staff at St. Clare Meadows for the wonderful care shown to Verna.
